The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has held a conference in Amman, Jordan as part of its roadshow to promote the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) in the Middle East and North Africa, attended by HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Vice President of the Executive Committee of the EEA.
The press conference was attended by HE Qutaiba Abu Qura, former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan and HE Abdullah Bedier, Chairman of the Jordan Green Building Council. Representatives from ministries and local organisations and media organisations also attended the press conference.
The Supreme Council of Energy’s delegation included Taher Diab, Secretary General of the EEA, and Ali Al Suwaidi, Manager of Corporate Communications at the Supreme Council of Energy and Member of the Marketing and Events Committee.
At the conference, the Supreme Council of Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jordan Green Building Council and the Jordan Engineers Association, for cooperation in the development of energy programmes and projects, exchanging knowledge and best practices, collaboration in research, development, and training programmes, to support a clean-energy focused strategy and protect the environment.
“The Emirates Energy Award aims to attract best practices and experiences in the region and gives the chance to participants to present their green projects. We honour them and praise their efforts to raise awareness about the management and conservation of natural resources,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and President of the Emirates Energy Award.
“The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the second stop in the roadshow to promote the Award in the MENA region. Jordan is an advanced nation in adopting green initiatives and projects, including renewable and clean energy,” added Al Tayer.
At the conference, Al Muhairbi highlighted the EEA’s objectives, which support the UAE National Agenda and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 which aims to reduce energy demand by 30% in 2030. He also highlighted the best international practices and innovative efforts that have been effective in promoting energy conservation and the use and sustainability of alternative and clean resources, and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources to reduce environmental pollution. He also emphasised the important role of organisations and individuals in spreading awareness about rational consumption and saving natural resources, protecting the environment, and the transformation towards a green economy.
The deadline for applying for the EAA is 30 January 2015. The Jury will start evaluating the applications in February 2015. Winners of the EEA will be honoured in a ceremony that will be held in October 2015 in conjunction with World Energy Day.
