The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy held a conference in Muscat, Oman as part of its roadshow in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to promote the 2nd Emirates Energy Award (EEA), whose theme is For a Sustainable Future.
The press conference was attended by directors and CEOs of government and private organisations as well as local media. The Supreme Council of Energy’s delegation included Nasser Al Shaiba, Director of Environment, Health and Safety at the Supreme Council of Energy, Taher Diab, Secretary General of the EEA, and Omar Al Qurashi, Vice Chairman of Marketing and Events at the EEA.
“The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has launched the Emirates Energy Award to support the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It supports our strategy in energy efficiency, and the shift towards a green economy, and our vision for Dubai to become a hub for managing clean energy in the region,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and President of the EEA.
“The EEA celebrates successful practices and innovative projects which benefit not only the UAE, but also the Middle East and North Africa and the whole world as well. We also seek to promote awareness about management and use of energy among all segment of Arab communities to encourage the rational use of natural resources and achieve sustainable development for generations to come,” added Al Tayer.
“The EEA is a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences by leveraging the expertise of institutions and individuals, and drawing on their ideas and projects for a sustainable future. Representatives of the Supreme Council of Energy provided information about the EEA, its objectives, categories and criteria, in addition to the evaluation process and timetable,” said HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
Applications for the EEA can be submitted from 1 December 2014 to end of January 2015. The judging panel will then evaluate and shortlist the applications, and nominate the winners to the EEA’s executive committee for final approval. Winners will be honoured in October 2015 in conjunction with World Energy Day.
