Emirates Energy Award records strong turnout at WETEX 2013

The Emirates Energy Awards (EEA) has participated in the 15th Water, Energy and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2013, organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The event was held in conjunction with the Dubai Global Energy Forum (DGEF) 2013 held by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy from 15-17 April, 2013, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC).
The EEA stand witnessed strong turnout from WETEX and DGEF official delegates and visitors who expressed their interest in participating in the Award.
The Award is one of the most significant international initiatives launched by the Supreme Council to honour the efforts and best practices of organisations and individuals who work in the energy sector. It aims to create an integrated framework to promote a culture of excellence, and sustainability in energy sector, by highlighting best practices and pioneering achievements in the field of energy efficiency, alternative energy and clean energy locally and globally.
“The Award was launched in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in accordance with Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 which aims to diversify the energy mix of the Emirate to be 71% Gas, 12% Nuclear Energy, 12% Clean Coal, and 5% Solar Energy by 2030, while reducing energy consumption by 30%,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council and President of EEA.
“Through this Award, we aim to promote the use of alternative and renewable energy resources, and reduce the use of conventional energy resources, to minimise the negative impact on the environment. We also aim to activate the role of organisations and individuals in the energy sector, raise awareness on the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment, and promote Dubai as a global hub for renewable energy,” added Al Tayer.
Al Tayer said that the EEA has become a global platform for energy efficiency, adding that the Award supports the UAE’s efforts to win the bid of ‘EXPO 2020’.
“The EEA recognises the local and global outstanding achievements in energy sector. It is also a motivation for creativity and innovation by providing a competitive work-environment and implementing the highest international standards to promote the sustainability of natural resources,” said HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council and Vice Chairman of EEA Executive Committee.
“The Award was launched to provide a global platform for organisations and individuals. The EEA supports the global efforts aimed at providing sustainable solutions for pollution, global warming, carbon emissions, and lack of natural resources. The EEA supports the UAE’s Vision 2021 to be among the best countries in the world by 2021,” added Al Muhairbi.
The EEA includes the six categories: Gold and Silver awards for Energy Conservation in the private and public sectors; Gold and Silver awards for large-scale energy projects; Gold and Silver awards for small-energy projects; and Gold and Silver awards for education and research, in addition to a special award for excellence as well as an award for young innovators in energy.
